Caregiver Spotlight: Lucke Evans

Apr 18, 2018 by Alan White

One of the main reasons Comfort Keepers of Cumming succeeds is our focus on compassionate caregivers. Our caregivers work hard to provide the highest standard of home care to older adults throughout North Georgia. Today we want to give a shout-out to Lucke Evans. We recently interviewed Lucke about her career as a caregiver.

Lucke has worked for 20 years in the home care and health care industries, so she brings plenty of experience to the table as a caregiver. When we spoke with her, she emphasized the importance of empathy. In her words, “Clients can’t do the things they want to do. Sometimes I need to be their hands, their feet, their eyes… I want to make them feel happy and make them feel comfortable.”

Lucke let us in on some of her favorite tips for helping a senior loved one feel good. Her simplest tip is to smile: “Before I worked at Comfort Keepers, I worked in hospitals. When I walked into a room, patients would say ‘your smile makes me feel better’. And I want them to feel better. She also suggests helping your clients look good, “because when you look good, you feel good.”

Later in the conversation, Lucke brought up her love of old school country music. Even with many Georgians’ appreciation for modern country music, many of us haven’t heard hall-of-famers like the late Don Williams and Marty Robbins. For those of you who are interested, we recommend the Robbins’s western ballad El Paso and Williams’ lively Tulsa Time.

We asked Lucke if she had any advice for new caregivers caring for clients. She recommended this: “Get to know the person on their level. You can look around their home, know what they like… Make sure they are comfortable… and be yourself around them.”

After the interview, Lucke followed up with us to add this: “Being a comfort keeper is rewarding… clients’ families can rest easy knowing that I can be relied upon to ensure their loved ones will be well taken care of. I try to care for the clients like I would care for my mom or dad.” Her message resonates strongly with us. We’re so thankful that you joined the Comfort Keepers family.

Lucke is just one of many hard-working caregivers here at Comfort Keepers of Cumming, GA. If you are interested in working with our team, you can see our job openings and fill out an employment application online.
